________

Fehinty African Theatre Ensemble, Arts + Public Life inaugural Theater Company-in-Residence, is led by Artistic Director Olateju S. Adesida, and believes that performance illuminates many trajectories and common humanity. Their mission is to stage creative works from Africa and its diaspora through a process that actively engages African communities, facilitates the development of emerging artists and fosters dialogue and creative exchanges. Fehinty grew out of a community that wanted to tell stories that represented them in a new world. While African plays were not an anomaly in the early 2000s in Chicago, what there was did not reach or connect with the African immigrant community. As much as there are plays/stories that are culturally representative, it is as paramount that African Diasporans also be the tellers of those stories. Fehinty is a platform for the development of emerging African writers, directors, actors, and designers in diaspora and provide space and support for their work.

Women Speak. Men Listen

"Silence is a source of great strength." — Lao Tzu

To begin our celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth we are hosting a listening party! True listening, not the waiting to speak kind but Listening with full presence, with genuine curiosity, without assumption. Have you ever listened with your whole body? Submitted completely to the adventure of not knowing? Do you know it feels to crave understanding? Bring that energy, to honor Black women with sacred intention.

We will be fortunate to be in the company of women with lots of wisdom to share:
Afrika Porter of Afrika Enterprises
Kendria K Love Harris aka K Love the POET
Dr. Sharon Bethea
Antonique Akua of Akuaba Birth Services
Rashidat Owe of I Am Rashidat
Jasmine Turner of Jas Loves Love
Cherlnell Lane of Cherlnell Lane, LLC
Trici Coleman of Step Up to the Plate of LIFE & Wait On Purpose
Del Marie of Del Marie

The men that usually meet at this time for our men's wellness circles #MANifestWellnessSundays are graciously giving up our session to invite these brilliant women to share with us, and everyone, insights into their lives and work. We have asked them to help us shape the conversations we have in our male-only spaces, to help us become better men, partners, husbands, and fathers.

Men will not be allowed to speak the entire session. This will not be a dialogue between men and women. There may be an opportunity to submit written questions from men in attendance.

Also be prepared to support these and other Black women who will bring books and other products for sale. (*If you are a Black women with products you would like to vend, no fee, space limited, please send a message*)

At 11:30 am, before the panel, we are inviting women to join our #BlackMenDoYoga session. We will emphasize poses that day that honor Ancient Kemetic Goddesses: Auset, Ma'at and Nut !

Queens In Training Treat Us As Such

Healing Through It Summit:

Queens in Training Treat Us As Such!

A Cherlnell Lane, LLC Production

Register at bit.ly/queensintraining

Description

Unhealthy Relationships (both romantic and platonic) are happening to our girls at younger and younger ages. They are entering into these relationships at an alarming rate. Girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence — almost triple the national average. Unhealthy behavior typically begins between the ages of 12 and 18. Cherlnell Lane, LLC has created this summit as an educational experience for girls in 5th to 8th grade. Where they will learn the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships. The ladies will learn ways to prevent entering into an unhealthy relationship. They will learn they have a voice and how to use it. So, if placed in that situation they can speak up for themselves. Then last but not least the princesses will learn through self-esteem and self- love activities they are Queens in training and therefore required to be treated in a certain way. That doesn't include being in an unhealthy relationship.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be served.

We will also have a surprise for the girls.

In order to make the young ladies comfortable, there will be no parents allowed.
